Rants, raves and daily pessimism

This is where I can say the things I don't get to say in person...

Had a new battery installed in the Jeep last night. Now it starts up quick and responsive. The old battery must have been almost dead. Cost: 52.90 at WalMart Autocenter.

News bites. Really...

In most cases, when you think you're getting the news, you're only getting someone's paraphrasing of another news source. Broadcasters are bad -- be it on TV or radio. They are often restricted to a specific short time period and must fit all the news into it.

The result is we hear summaries of news. Not enough information to let us come to some kind of conclusion for ourselves. We're left hanging. Or, what might be worse, we're given a conclusion -- being led around like sheep.

That's were the web is good. You can find almost all the details, and then some, you need to reach conclusions for yourself. BUT there's still a down side. With the internet you must learn to separate the wheat from the chaf, quickly.

It's almost the opposite effect on the web. There are so many sources of news. You can get lost in all the detail.

See what I mean?

The economy sucks right now. There is no job security or stability. So if there were something I'd like to invest in -- something that costs a few coins, I can't. You never know if you'll need the cash for something unexpected, just around the corner.

Not that I've pegged something specific to invest in. The tech. market is in perpetual carrot dangling mode. Everything new and cool is going to be available soon.

I should have bought a log cabin in the wilderness a long time ago ;-)

I like new things. But I hate when things change. Sometimes you can't have something new without something old changing or disappearing.

My main bank just changed their drive through ATMs. Before, these ATMs were o.k. They had a few annoyances, but mostly they were o.k. The only gripes I had with the old drive-thru ATMs was that they were a little hard to reach from your car window.

Now, the new design is even harder to reach from your car window. The old design was about the same size as your car door. But this new design is about 1 1/2 car doors wide, or wider. Now I have to reach out farther, and back and forward... to insert my ATM card, press the buttons, get my receipt and cash. Just a pain...

I've wanted to start a blog for a few weeks now. Every attempt has not worked. My blog entries are being consumed by some troll living under the information superhighway.

Hopefully this one makes it through...
